Petfinder.com, a site devoted to matching animals with homes, offers specific searches to help you find the exact breed and age of dog you are looking for. These dogs are found in rescue facilities and shelters around the country and are often times in desperate need of a home. While I recommend one of these dogs as an addition to your home, if you decide to go with a breeder never get a puppy less than seven weeks of age. While some breeders will sell you a puppy at six weeks (this is the age they can physically leave their mother) they learn important lessons after that which only the mother and siblings can teach.
