This is the first step to begin training with Clark Canine Academy. We will sit down with you to discuss what you would like to accomplish with your dog over the course of training. Durring this time we will also develop a personalized training plan based on your needs.
Private lessons can be done in your home or at my facility. They generally last about 45 minutes and will cover the commands listed below. How far you go is up to you and lessons are set based on your schedule and progress. During these lessons I will teach you how to teach your dog. Dogs that have the most success with private lessons are those with no major behavior problems and a general willingness to please their owners. However, in order to be successful you will need to work with your dog in between lessons. Due to the fact that I will only see your dog once a week, this option requires a time commitment from you in order to progress. A training collar is included in the price.
*If travel time exceeds 30 minutes there may be an additional charge

Residency programs are done in my home and involves me working with your dog several times a day. This option allows me to teach your dog all the commands before you start working with him or her. After your dog is done with their residency program I will do follow up lessons with you to teach you how to do the commands. You must provide food for your dog during his/her stay. A training collar is included in the cost.

This is a great way to give your puppy the best start possible. Your puppy will be socialized to new objects and people in a positive, nonthreatening way. You will also learn how to stop common problems like housetraining and play biting. The main goal though is to strengthen your relationship with your puppy which will make formal training much easier later on. Puppy Preschool begins with a private consultation and includes two group classes. Puppies must be under 16 weeks by the time of the last class. Puppy Preschool graduates receive 10% off initial training after evaluation.
Once your dog has completed advanced obedience with me (either residency program or all private lessons) the following upgrades allow you to continue working with your dog. This continues to enhance your relationship and provides your dog with a job to occupy his energy.
Your dog must be proficient in all Basic Obedience commands for this course (Advanced Obedience not required). This package includes two weekly sessions in which we will meet at a public place in order to work on socialization and continued obedience around distractions. During the first session I will administer a practice test that will prepare you for the real thing the following week. This package includes any fees that the AKC requires for the CGC certificate. If your dog does not pass the test this package also includes one retake at a later date. We also offer to administer the test only for a reduced rate.
(Completing this package does not certify you or your dog for therapy work.)
In this package your dog will spend between 5 and 8 days with me learning to perform all of the obedience commands off leash. This will be done both inside and outside (in a fenced in area) and with different distractions. During this time your dog will learn that it is you who controls him or her and not the leash. They will also learn to focus on you no matter what else is going on. I teach off leash obedience with or without the use of an e-collar depending on your preferences and your dog’s personality. This package includes two follow up lessons. Off Leash Obedience can also be done as private lessons and it will take approximately four lessons to cover everything.
In this package your dog will spend between 4 and 7 days with me learning the basics of retrieval. By the time you pick up your dog he or she will be able to pick up a wooden rod and place it in your hand on command. This is taught the same way that I would teach a service dog; although it can be fun, it is a command that they have to follow and not a game. In the two follow up lessons that you will receive with your dog you will learn how to transfer this skill to anything that you want your dog to retrieve for you. This can be anything from dropped keys to the television remote. This is a great way to strengthen your relationship with your dog as it provides a job that they can perform for you.
In this package your dog will spend between 6 and 10 days with me learning the basics of tracking and trailing. During this time your dog will learn to search with his or her nose and not their eyes. By the time you pick up your dog he or she will be able to follow a specific scent along a short trail and pick that scent out of a selection of other scents. In the two follow up lessons that you will receive with your dog you will learn how to transfer this ability to following a human scent. This is another great way to strengthen your relationship with your dog and can be a fun way to include your dog in a family game of hide and seek.
